Even on vacation, Self-Care Is NOT Selfish-Care!

Vacations are great for the mind, body and spirit . . . as long as you remember to take care of yourself.

It's just as important to maintain a self-care routine on vacation as it is during your usual, everyday life. The world cannot get the best of you unless you treat yourself to the beautiful things you deserve each and every day. Your "vacation self-care" may look a bit different than usual, but you can either plan on doing what you do at home or you can experience a few new techniques. Here are five ways to maintain awesome self-care on-the-go.

  1. Your Favorite Novel Will Be Your Best Friend. Reading is a great way to practice self-care while on vacation. It can be inspirational, a fun fiction novel, or even a super transparent self-help book. Although you're already technically on a getaway, there's nothing quite like the escape of losing yourself in a good book.

  2. Learn To Say “No.” Getting out in the world brings so many new opportunities. New destinations to explore. New friends to meet. New activities to try. New foods to eat. Saying "yes" to every new experience might leave you more exhausted than you were before you left. Being more selective about what you say "yes" to will help you have the travel experience you personally want or need.

  3. Get Your Beauty Sleep. Imagine if we recharged ourselves as much as we recharge our devices! Rest is just as much a part of the journey, so prioritize good sleep and recharge those batteries.

  4. Commit to a Digital Detox. If there is one thing we can all use LESS of, it's being continually connected. Commitments do persist, even when we’re on holiday. So if a full device detox isn’t possible, at the very least try and declare your meals device-free. You will be amazed at how freeing this is!

  5. Walk it Off. Even the most intentionally lazy holidays can instill cabin fever. Whether you’re on a remote island, in the mountains, surrounded by desert dunes or deep in the bustling heart of a city, a long walk is always good for the soul. Be active, get outdoors and appreciate your surroundings.
